Paladin was retained to look at trenchless options to install three 48-inch steel casings under highway 63 at Syncrude's base plant of operations north of Fort McMurray. Paladin provided design, construction execution, assist Graham Construction with bid tendering and construction management during installation. Ground conditions encountered were different than what were planned with chunks of shale being in size of up to 70% of the diameter of the casing making the proposed installation method not applicable anymore. In short turnaround a revised plan for proposed, risk assessments completed, additional equipment mobilized to the project site for the successful installation of the three casings under highway 63, while minimizing construction delays and negotiating with sub-contractors to stay within project budget.
